About me

I am a Social Psychologist Maarit Pönkänen. I offer Therapeutic Support and Counselling in English for various life situations in person and online. I also do Hope Therapy and offer online courses on grief and self-compassion.

My educational background is from the UK, where I graduated with BA and MA degrees in Linguistics & Communication Studies. I then graduated with a MA in Social Sciences, majoring in Social Psychology in Finland. I have also completed Basic and Advanced studies in Psychology required for psychoterapeutic further training. To work as a counsellor, I completed a Canadian training for Solution Focused Brief Therapy in English. I constantly develop my skills and education.

My international study and work experience, work in the education field, my managerial experience and entrepreneurship, help me meet people with various backgrounds and life circumstances. These experiences have taught me to appreciate different lifestyles and see life from various perspectives.

As a Social Psychologist I believe that human beings are fundamentally social and that many problems have social origins. Different, sometimes unwritten, acceptable ways of behaving and being in society affect our behaviour, thoughts, feelings and decisions. The traditions and values of a culture shape us and determine what is acceptable and what is not. In counselling I take the outside world into account and we also discuss these issues together.

I am a member of Finnish Social Psychologists registered association and Finnish business women registered association
